Search Ends for Crew Member Overboard from German Cruise Ship off Kent Coast

Nine-hour search unsuccessful despite deployment of a helicopter and RNLI lifeboats, cruise ship AIDAperla resumes journey to Spain.

A crew member fell overboard from the German vessel AIDAperla off Ramsgate, Kent on Sunday during its journey from Hamburg to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands.
The search for the missing man, which involved a helicopter and RNLI lifeboats, was initiated around 09:00 BST and ended at about 18:00 BST the same day after failing to locate him.
AIDA Cruises announced they are in close contact with the missing crew member's family, expressing their thoughts are with them and the AIDAperla crew.
After halted for the search operation, the cruise ship AIDAperla was released after dark and continued its journey towards La Coruña in northwest Spain.
The ship immediately stopped and returned to the spot where the incident was believed to have taken place, joining the search operation.
