Overview

  • A 31-year-old and a 39-year-old man were arrested in Bristol on June 26 and released on conditional bail barring them from Wiltshire.
  • The missing works comprise a replica of the Capitoline She-Wolf with Romulus and Remus, two Roman deer and a bust of Antinous, all taken during the manor’s jazz festival.
  • Each statue had stood in Iford Manor’s Grade II-listed gardens for more than a century and formed a central part of its historic landscape design.
  • Detective Inspector Penny Andrews has urged anyone with information to contact Wiltshire Police and asked antique dealers and auction houses to report any sightings.
  • Owners William and Marianne Cartwright-Hignett described the theft as a devastating affront to shared heritage and have joined calls for the bronzes’ safe return.
