Overview

  • Program coordinator Scott Booth said no further evidence has emerged and rangers now suspect the sonar image may be a shark or dolphin rather than a crocodile.
  • Since July 21, wildlife teams have mounted land-, air- and water-based operations using vessels, drones and night-time spotlights to locate the reptile.
  • Earlier in July, officers euthanased a saltwater crocodile in the Mary River and another was photographed at Inskip Point, illustrating occasional southward vagrancy.
  • University of Queensland experts warn that winter water temperatures around Noosa are too low to support a prolonged crocodile presence, making sustained occupation unlikely.
  • The public is urged to report any crocodile sightings through the QWildlife app or by contacting DETSI to support ongoing safety and monitoring efforts.
