• A young male brown bear estimated at around three years old was first spotted early Monday in Reinosa, with videos showing it moving through the La Vega industrial park and into the La Naval complex.
• The Cantabria Rural Development Department activated its problematic bear protocol and deployed agents from the Natural Environment and Forestry Department, Seprona and the Civil Guard to locate the animal.
• Search teams and tracking dogs last traced the bear’s path toward forested mountains south of the Ebro Reservoir, where it is believed to be returning to its natural habitat.
• The Dirección General de Montes has kept veterinary staff and response personnel on standby to confirm the bear’s departure and ensure the safety of both the public and the animal.
• Residents have been warned against pursuing the bear by vehicle to prevent causing stress or endangering the animal during any unexpected road encounters.
