Overview

  • On July 18 in Barra de Santa Ana, Lázaro Cárdenas, Andrés Alejandro S. H. slipped from a bridge into a crocodile-infested mangrove canal while vacationing with his family.
  • Protección Civil Municipal activated a search supported by Guardia Civil, Fiscalía General del Estado and the Navy, deploying boats, drones and land patrols.
  • By July 20, no remains have been recovered and a drone image showing a crocodile carrying possible organic matter has intensified concerns.
  • The Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Cortázar, where Andrés served as altar boy, has called for prayers as local schools and community groups mourn his loss.
  • Authorities have reiterated that crocodiles are part of the regional ecosystem and called for stricter safety infrastructure and clearer signage in natural reserves.
