Sean Astin and Michelle Hurd File Coalition Slate for SAG-AFTRA Election

Having met the July 11 petition deadline, Astin and Hurd aim to guide the union through post-strike negotiations, AI safeguards and industry contraction.

Overview

  • Sean Astin filed his candidacy for SAG-AFTRA president alongside Michelle Hurd’s bid for secretary-treasurer after serving on five negotiating committees and national and L.A. local boards.
  • The Coalition 2025 slate also includes Joely Fisher for Los Angeles Local Board president, Lisa Ann Walter for first vice president and David Jolliffe for second vice president.
  • Fran Drescher, who led the union through its 118-day strike and early AI negotiations, opted not to seek a third term.
  • Nomination petitions closed at 5 p.m. on July 11 and a complete list of candidates will be released next week, with ballots scheduled for August 13 to September 12.
  • The winning leadership team will immediately confront upcoming contract talks with major studios, review AI protections and address shrinking work opportunities following the strike.
