Seahawks Stifle 49ers 13–3 to Claim NFC West as Purdy Sustains Late Stinger

Kyle Shanahan said the quarterback sustained a left-shoulder stinger that is not expected to affect his wild-card availability.

Overview

  • San Francisco fell to 12-5 and lost a shot at the NFC’s top seed, setting up a road wild-card game as either the No. 5 or No. 6 seed depending on Sunday’s results.
  • On fourth-and-6 with 1:51 left, Brock Purdy was hit by Derick Hall and Leonard Williams, was evaluated in the sideline tent, and was cleared to return if needed, per Shanahan.
  • The 49ers finished with 173 yards and nine first downs as Purdy went 19-of-27 for 127 yards with one interception and three sacks, and Christian McCaffrey was held to 57 scrimmage yards.
  • Purdy’s throwing thumb was bloodied earlier in the game, while linebackers Dee Winters (ankle) and Tatum Bethune (groin) exited; left tackle Trent Williams and receiver Ricky Pearsall were inactive.
  • A tipped Purdy pass that deflected off McCaffrey and was intercepted by Drake Thomas at the Seattle 6 ended San Francisco’s best chance, as the Seahawks controlled the ball for 37:48 and rushed for 180 yards.
