Overview

  • Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald emphatically ruled out any quarterback competition, declaring Darnold the unquestioned Week 1 starter barring injury.
  • Seattle traded Geno Smith to Las Vegas in March and committed to Darnold with a three-year, $100.5 million deal that carries a $37.5 million escape hatch after one season.
  • In early June OTAs open to media, Darnold threw two interceptions in three plays but Macdonald said such miscues are expected and will be corrected.
  • Drew Lock will serve as Darnold’s backup while third-round rookie Jalen Milroe is slated for specialty packages, with Darnold still slated for over 90 percent of snaps.
  • Darnold, fresh off a 35-touchdown Pro Bowl season with Minnesota in 2024, is acclimating to Klint Kubiak’s new Seahawks offense.
