SeAH Wind Launches Commercial Production of XXL Monopiles at Teesside Facility

Overview

  • SeAH Wind has begun commercial output of XXL monopile foundations for Ørsted’s 2.9 GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm.
  • The Teesside complex is the first UK purpose-built factory dedicated to manufacturing XXL monopiles for the offshore wind sector.
  • Production workflows cover plate preparation, rolling, welding, non-destructive testing, coating and final assembly of structures exceeding 100 metres in length and 2,000 tonnes.
  • Finished monopiles will be stored at Steel River Quay before being installed by Cadeler under a contract secured with Ørsted in 2023.
  • The £900 million facility employs about 300 staff with capacity to expand to 750 roles, reinforcing Teesside’s industrial regeneration and skills development.
