Seagate Prepares to Launch 32TB Hard Drive Using HAMR Technology

The long-awaited heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) drives are set for release soon, with initial shipments to large-scale customers already underway.

Seagate's upcoming Exos M hard drive will feature up to 32TB of storage, utilizing heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology for higher data density.
HAMR technology uses localized heating to enable smaller data bits on the disk, allowing for a 3TB per platter density and increased storage capacity.
The drives are built on Seagate's Mozaic 3+ platform, offering three times the power efficiency per terabyte compared to traditional hard drives.
Seagate has completed qualification testing with several large-scale customers, including a major cloud service provider, and plans to begin volume shipments in the coming weeks.
The Exos M hard drives will compete with Western Digital's 32TB ePMR drives, with Seagate aiming to lead the market through HAMR's scalability for future high-capacity solutions.
