Overview
- On Monday, July 20, multiple outlets reported that Ava Bunn has been promoted to series regular for Season 2 while Joel Kim Booster and X Mayo will not return.
- ABC and 20th Television have started filming a 10-episode second season scheduled for a fall broadcast on ABC with episodes available next day on Hulu.
- Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison are confirmed to return as series regulars while several original cast members, including John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, Neil Flynn and Robert Maschio, will appear in recurring or guest roles.
- Joel Kim Booster’s Dr. Kevin Park and X Mayo’s Charge Nurse Raymond — both recurring presences in Season 1 — are not listed for Season 2, a change that reduces immediate rivalry and staff-pairing storylines established last season.
- The revival’s strong cross-platform ratings in its debut season helped secure the quick renewal, and showrunner Aseem Batra with executive producers including Bill Lawrence are balancing legacy guest returns, actors’ outside commitments and expanded focus on the new intern cohort; Ken Jenkins’ return as Dr. Kelso remains unconfirmed.
