Overview
- Scripps Health’s board approved a northern-region facilities plan and disclosed the purchase of 15 acres at Discovery Street and Twin Oaks Valley Road in San Marcos.
- Work at the San Marcos site will start with ambulatory care followed by a 120-bed acute-care hospital that is planned to expand to roughly 200–230 beds.
- The La Jolla campus will add a new medical office building before a third hospital tower featuring 168 beds, eight electrophysiology labs, four operating rooms and a rooftop helipad built to military-helicopter standards.
- Scripps Green Hospital will not close immediately, with staff and services set to transition to La Jolla over five to ten years and potential closure tied to meeting 2030 seismic-operability requirements.
- Leadership cites a stronger commercial payor mix in North County and plans to use proceeds from a future sale of the Scripps Green property to help finance the expansion.
