Scottsdale Man Arrested After 4-Hour Barricade Over Domestic Violence, Arson Threats

Police say he was prohibited from being at the residence by a court-issued protective order.

Overview

  • Police were called just after 11 a.m. Saturday to a home near 70th Street and McDowell Road after Andrew M. Shadid, 54, allegedly forced entry.
  • Investigators say he assaulted a woman, poured gasoline throughout the home, and threatened to kill her and himself if officers showed up.
  • The woman escaped before officers arrived as police established a perimeter, blocked roads, and evacuated neighboring homes for safety.
  • Negotiators and SWAT responded, and at about 3:45 p.m. officers entered, encountered Shadid who claimed he was armed, deployed a K-9, and took him into custody after a dog bite.
  • Shadid was treated by medics, transported to a hospital, then booked into Scottsdale Jail and transferred Sunday to Maricopa County jail on multiple charges, as the victim receives crisis intervention support.
