Scottsdale Approves Axon HQ Deal Cutting Housing to 1,200 Units

Axon must sign by Nov. 19 to finalize terms that keep Scottsdale out of a lawsuit over a state law blocking a referendum.

Overview

  • The council approved the memorandum of understanding 4-3, with Mayor Lisa Borowsky casting the deciding vote after a recess.
  • The compromise scales the residential component to 600 apartments and 600 condos, down from roughly 1,900 homes in the original plan.
  • Under the MOU, Axon must sign by Nov. 19 and waive certain claims, including over diminished property value, for the city to stay out of the TAAAZE lawsuit.
  • Senate Bill 1543, signed in April, prevents a local vote on the project, and Axon had lobbied lawmakers for the change.
  • The 70-plus-acre campus near Loop 101 and Hayden Road includes offices, a manufacturing facility, a hotel and commercial space, with Axon targeting a 2026 groundbreaking.
