Scottish Paramedic Jailed for Covert Abortion Drugging of Partner

Overview

  • Stephen Doohan pleaded guilty in May to sexual assault, assault and causing an abortion and received a 10-year, six-month sentence at Glasgow High Court.
  • Lord Colbeck imposed a non-harassment order barring Doohan from contacting the victim and ordered his registration as a sex offender.
  • Prosecutors presented a syringe of crushed tablets, two star-shaped pills hidden under a mattress and intranet search logs showing he researched misoprostol on March 14, 2023.
  • The victim miscarried after Doohan administered the abortion drug during consensual sex on March 17 and subsequent hospital visits on March 18–19 confirmed the loss.
  • Doohan has been dismissed from his role as a clinical team leader with the Scottish Ambulance Service and remains in custody as his sentence takes effect.
