Scott Jamieson and Daniel Hillier Tied for Lead in Qatar Masters First Round

Jamieson's strong performance in the first round brings hope in his fight to retain his European tour card, while New Zealander Hillier continues his impressive form after winning the British Masters in July.

  • Scott Jamieson, having missed the cut in eight of his last 13 tournaments, opened the Qatar Masters with a seven-under-par 65, tying for the lead with New Zealand's Daniel Hillier before a sandstorm and lightning halted the play.
  • Jamieson sits 119th in the Race to Dubai standings. The top 116 players will retain their full privileges for the 2024 season. Jamieson's close friend Marc Warren, a four-time winner on the tour, is also on the edge at 117th.
  • Jamieson admits that he has been worrying about the ranking too much recently, affecting his game, and now with nothing to lose more, he's willing to give everything in Qatar Masters to retain his card.
  • Daniel Hillier, the winner of the British Masters in July, continues his good form by sharing the clubhouse lead with 7-under 65, including an eagle and five birdies in a bogey-free round.
  • The defending champion Ewen Ferguson, along with fellow Scotsmen Stephen Gallacher and Robert MacIntyre, and Santiago Tarrio of Spain, are a stroke behind tied for the second place. The game will resume early Friday.
