Scott DeRue, Former Equinox President, Appointed as CEO of The Ironman Group

DeRue succeeds Andrew Messick, bringing a diverse background and a passion for endurance sports to the world's largest operator of mass participation sports.

• Scott DeRue, former president of Equinox, has been appointed as the new CEO of The Ironman Group, succeeding Andrew Messick who retired in July 2023 after 12 years in the role.
• DeRue, a passionate endurance athlete, has a diverse background including a stint as dean of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and an analyst role at the Monitor Group, now part of Deloitte.
• The Ironman Group, owned by Advance and Orkila Capital, is the world's largest operator of mass participation sports, organizing hundreds of events in over 50 countries across various sports including triathlon, road running, trail running, road cycling and mountain biking.
• Despite a drop in traditional triathlon participation over the past five years, DeRue is optimistic about the future of endurance sports and sees potential for growth in digital coaching services and merchandising.
• DeRue plans to spend the first few months of his new role familiarizing himself with the company, attending races, and training for his first triathlon.
