Scope to Shut Two More Shops on Oct. 18, Bringing 2025 Closures to 58

Financial pressures are driving Scope to shrink its shop network.

Overview

  • Branches in Gillingham’s Twydall Green and London’s Stamford Hill will close on October 18 as part of the charity’s retail restructure.
  • The latest move takes this year’s tally of closures reported across England and Wales to 58 under a programme launched through a January consultation.
  • Scope says it is still considering shutting up to 77 of its 138 shops as it refocuses on stronger-performing locations.
  • Between March and September, 50 stores were closed in waves, with the heaviest reductions reported in May and June.
  • Scope’s latest annual report shows about £24 million in retail trading income against £24.7 million in shop operating costs, and some vacated sites and staff have been taken on by groups such as A World UK CIC and Farleigh Hospice.
