Schwangau Issues Boil-Water Order After Enterococci Detected

Officials report a minor exceedance at one sampling point and will lift the order only after tests show the network is clear.

Overview

  • Gesundheitsamt Ostallgäu imposed the precautionary measure for Schwangau’s supply area, excluding the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds network in Hohenschwangau.
  • Routine monitoring found enterococci with a slight limit exceedance at one sampling location, and authorities say gastrointestinal complaints are possible in the worst case but no further health danger is expected.
  • The Schwangau waterworks, in coordination with the health office, is conducting additional sampling and will end the restrictions once laboratory results confirm no bacteria remain in the distribution system.
  • Residents are instructed to boil tap water for drinking, cooking, and dental hygiene, to use mineral water for preparing baby and children’s food, and to avoid swallowing water while showering.
  • The municipality has set up a hotline for questions at 08362/8198-0, and the incident echoes recent localized boil-water advisories reported elsewhere in Bavaria, including Passau.
