Schnucks Family’s 1939 Group to Acquire Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers

Closing is targeted for late October pending customary regulatory reviews.

  • The transaction covers 51 Wisconsin stores, comprising 42 Festival Foods locations and nine Hometown Grocers banners.
  • Todd Schnuck will become chairman and CEO of the 1939 Group, leading Schnuck Markets, Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers.
  • Festival Foods CEO Mark Skogen will step down after the sale closes, as the companies retain their existing names and headquarters in Onalaska and Green Bay.
  • The combined footprint will total about 164 supermarkets across Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin with a workforce of roughly 19,000 employees.
