Schillinger Vegan Holding Enters Insolvency, Closes German Swing Kitchen Outlets

A court-supervised restructuring without self-administration will seek to preserve the chain’s five restaurants in Austria and Switzerland.

Overview

  • Schillinger Vegan Holding, parent of vegan fast-food chain Swing Kitchen, filed for insolvency on August 1 with about €4.3 million in liabilities and 40 creditors affected.
  • All three German outlets in Berlin, Munich and Leipzig have been shuttered following the insolvency filing.
  • The company has initiated a Sanierungsverfahren ohne Eigenverwaltung under Austrian law to oversee its restructuring.
  • Five Swing Kitchen restaurants in Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck, Zurich and Bern will remain open pending the outcome of the restructuring.
  • CEO Albrecht Eltz attributed the crisis to rapid expansion during a period of rising raw material costs and said the recovery plan will emphasize leaner operations and menu innovation.
