  • In Sweden, the mercury dropped to -43.6C in Kvikkjokk-Ã…rrenjarka, the lowest January temperature recorded in the country in 25 years.
  • Two people, a mother and child, were found dead in Finnish Lapland after being caught in an avalanche.
  • Approximately 1,000 cars were trapped overnight in a snowstorm in southern Sweden, with some passengers trapped for 24 hours.
  • Meanwhile, strong winds and heavy rain in western Europe have caused flooding and at least one death.
