Scaffolding Comes Down at Salt Lake Temple, Signaling Shift to Interior Work

The Church says the project now pivots to interior finishing ahead of a late-2026 completion target.

Overview

  • Crews began dismantling exterior scaffolding this week, with all remaining sections expected to be removed by mid-March 2026.
  • Officials describe the milestone as a transition from heavy exterior construction to detailed interior finishing.
  • The full renovation is slated to conclude by the end of 2026, with a public open house planned April through October 2027 that the Church expects will draw at least 3 million visitors.
  • A new statue, Restoration of the Sealing Keys by Utah artist Ben Hammond, was installed Jan. 15 near the Salt Lake Tabernacle as part of ongoing Temple Square art additions.
  • Temple Square sister missionaries will now be assigned to surrounding missions and split time between local teaching areas and the square to enhance guest experience ahead of the open house.
