SC DHfK Leipzig Appoints Raúl Alonso as Head Coach

The club signed Alonso through June 2027 to steer preparations for a turnaround following its weakest Bundesliga season

Overview

  • Alonso agreed to a two-year contract lasting until 30 June 2027 and will join pre-season training on 17 July ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.
  • The 46-year-old arrives from North Macedonian champions RK Eurofarm Pelister, where he won the national title and secured Champions League qualification.
  • He returns to Germany after leading HC Erlangen as sporting director and head coach from 2021 to 2024 and guiding the team to the 2022 DHB-Pokal Final Four.
  • Alonso succeeds Runar Sigtryggsson, whom Leipzig parted ways with after finishing 13th in last season’s Handball-Bundesliga.
  • The month-long search saw failed negotiations with Nicolej Krickau and Oscar Carlén before the club settled on Alonso as its preferred candidate.
