SC Collegium Recommends Judges for Himachal and Karnataka, Confirms Permanency in Madras and Tripura

The decisions enter the constitutional appointment pipeline that requires executive clearance before any swearing-in.

  • At a meeting on September 15 led by Chief Justice B. R. Gavai, the Supreme Court Collegium approved a fresh slate of High Court appointments and confirmations.
  • Advocates Jiya Lal Bhardwaj and Romesh Verma were recommended as judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, which would lift its working strength from 11 to 13 upon appointment.
  • In Karnataka, Justice Kurubarahalli Venkataramareddy Aravind was approved as a permanent judge, and judicial officers Geetha Kadaba Bharatharaja Setty, Muralidhara Pai Borkatte, and Tyagaraja Narayan Inavally were cleared for elevation.
  • The Collegium approved the elevation of Additional Judges N. Senthilkumar and G. Arul Murugan as permanent judges of the Madras High Court and confirmed Justice Biswajit Palit as a permanent judge of the Tripura High Court.
  • Per procedure, the recommendations move to the Centre for review, followed by the President’s warrant and a Department of Justice notification before oaths are administered.
