SC Bar Expels Lawyer Over Attempted Shoe Attack on CJI Gavai

  • Punjab Police said they have registered several FIRs targeting more than 100 social‑media handles for allegedly casteist and inflammatory content against the CJI, invoking the SC/ST Act and BNS provisions on enmity, insult, public mischief and conspiracy.
  • The Bengaluru Vidhana Soudha police lodged a Zero FIR under BNS sections 132 and 133 citing assault or criminal force against a public servant and intentional insult likely to provoke a breach of peace, with transfer to the competent Delhi jurisdiction.
  • The preme CoCourt Bar Association terminated Rakesh Kishore’s temporary membership, cancelled his proximity access and called his conduct a direct assault on judicial independence, following the Bar Council of India’s suspension from practice.
  • Delhi Police detained and questioned Kishore on October 6 but released him after the Supreme Court Registrar General declined to pursue criminal charges.
  • A Supreme Court advocate has sought the Attorney General’s consent to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against Kishore, with the request pending.
