• The Free State of Saxony has allocated €4.3 million to 88 fish farms and conservation associations under its annual pond management program.
• Payments will be disbursed in the coming days as part of this year’s approved funding for fish farming and nature conservation.
• Subsidies cover approximately 8,082 hectares of ponds, aiming to help operators counter prolonged drought and maintain water levels.
• Recipients are required to uphold specific fish stocking densities, care for pond vegetation and forgo commercial leisure activities and fishing.
• Environment Minister Georg-Ludwig von Breitenbuch emphasized that the initiative delivers both economic value and critical habitat protection for vulnerable water plants, birds, insects and amphibians.
