• The Landesdirektion Sachsen issued a Planfeststellungsbeschluss for a new dike route between Kamitz and Pülswerda in the municipality of Arzberg.
• An approximately two‑kilometer section of the existing dike will be moved to give the river more room during floods.
• The measure will return about 47 hectares of the Elbe’s former floodplain to active overflow.
• Officials say the project aims to protect residents from so‑called century floods and to reduce risks for nearby communities.
• Together with additional planned dike relocations and polders, authorities expect potential peak reductions of up to roughly 30 centimeters, benefiting downstream areas.
