Overview
- Yellow level 1–2 severe thunderstorm warnings remain in force on 3 December for parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the North West, with SAWS noting continued showers and thundershowers.
- KwaZulu-Natal experienced level 5 alerts on 2 December, with heavy rain, hail and flooding triggering major disruptions in Pietermaritzburg and Durban and a full closure of the N3 at Town Hill.
- Emergency and disaster teams across affected municipalities remain deployed to clear roads, assess damage and assist residents as renewed storms bring localised flooding and hazardous travel.
- Earlier storms produced large hail and damaging winds across Pretoria and Johannesburg’s East Rand, causing roof, vehicle and infrastructure damage documented by local authorities and observers.
- The City of Tshwane reported one fatality in Bronkhorstspruit from a roof collapse, and SAWS has also flagged extremely high fire danger in parts of the Northern and Western Cape due to hot, dry and windy conditions.
