Overview
- SAWS, which issued its alerts on Friday, kept a heatwave advisory in force for parts of Limpopo’s Western Bushveld until 23:59 on 23 October to warn of persistently high temperatures and heat-related illness.
- The weather service declared extremely high (Level 10) veld-fire danger for Mahikeng and Ratlou in the North West for 09:00–18:59 on Friday and flagged a separate Level 10 warning for Nama Khoi in the Northern Cape for Saturday.
- Forecasts show very warm to hot daytime highs across several provinces — Rustenburg near 34°C and Pretoria and Mahikeng about 33°C — with a brief drop in parts of Limpopo on Saturday before temperatures rebound by Sunday.
- Localised isolated showers and afternoon thundershowers are expected in KwaZulu‑Natal, parts of the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga, but dry, windy conditions in other areas will sustain elevated fire risk.
- SAWS advisories instruct the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure and limit strenuous outdoor work, and direct officials to remove personnel and equipment from fields and place fire teams and aircraft on full standby when FDI values exceed 75.
