SAWS Issues Level 4 Storm Warning for Parts of KZN as Spring Instability Spreads on Monday

Targeted SAWS alerts signal elevated risk of severe thunderstorms with potential flooding.

Overview

  • A yellow level four warning targets central and northern KwaZulu-Natal, where intense thunderstorms may bring heavy downpours, dangerous lightning, hail and damaging winds with a risk of flooding.
  • A yellow level two alert for the east of the Free State warns that severe thunderstorms and heavy rain could cause localised flooding and damage to property.
  • Southern KZN is under a yellow level two warning for disruptive rainfall, with possible flooding in vulnerable settlements and on roads, slippery surfaces and reduced visibility.
  • Very cold conditions are expected over the interior of the eastern half of the Eastern Cape, alongside scattered showers and rain.
  • Gauteng is forecast to be cloudy and cool with widespread showers and thundershowers and a high UVB index, while several other provinces see scattered to widespread storms and the Western Cape faces coastal winds with possible light rain along the south coast.
