Overview

• Directed by Jean-Baptiste Bonnet, the documentary captures SOS Méditerranée’s Ocean Viking during its February–March 2023 rescue mission in the Mediterranean Sea.
• On June 20, the film was screened simultaneously in more than 100 cinemas across France to coincide with World Refugee Day and the NGO’s decade milestone.
• A live debate following the screenings brought together Bonnet, SOS Méditerranée president François Thomas, Amnesty International’s Diane Fogelman and journalist Nejma Brahim.
• The documentary highlights the journeys of migrants from Somalia, South Sudan and Nigeria, some of whom faced multiple failed crossing attempts.
• It also exposes illegal interventions by the Libyan navy and underscores the operational challenges faced by humanitarian rescue vessels.
