Savannah Warns of Major Downtown Delays Saturday as Multiple Events Converge

Police will enforce no-parking with towing in the SSU parade staging zone starting 12:01 a.m.

  • City officials say to expect significant traffic slowdowns and parking complications downtown on Oct. 25 due to the SSU Homecoming Parade, SCAD Film Fest, Pride Festival, Wag-O-Ween and the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
  • The SSU parade begins at 9 a.m. and will reroute traffic as it moves from East Broad at Liberty to Broughton, west to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and south to West Gwinnett before disbanding at May and Anderson.
  • No-parking zones tied to parade staging on East Broad between Gwinnett and Liberty take effect at 12:01 a.m., with towing enforced and very heavy congestion expected until after 1 p.m. in affected areas.
  • Event schedules include the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Daffin Park from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Pride Festival at Forsyth Park from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Wag-O-Ween at Pulaski Square from noon to 6 p.m. continuing Sunday, and SCAD Film Fest running Oct. 25–Nov. 1 starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.
  • Savannah Police anticipate large crowds downtown through the weekend and into next week and urge pedestrians to stay with a partner, share their plans with someone and keep recent photos of children and their outfits.
