Savannah Breaks Ground on 444-Room Signia by Hilton Beside Convention Center

The publicly owned headquarters hotel is intended to help the expanded campus land larger events by opening directly connected to it in 2028.

Overview

  • Officials held the Oct. 8 groundbreaking for the 444-room property on Hutchinson Island next to the expanded Savannah Convention Center.
  • The Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority owns the project, the Georgia World Congress Center Authority is a development partner, and Hilton will manage it as the campus headquarters hotel.
  • Plans call for a direct connection to the center, more than 34,000 square feet of meeting space with a 13,000-square-foot ballroom, five dining outlets, a rooftop bar, an outdoor pool, and Club Signia.
  • Songy Highroads and Matthews Southwest Hospitality are co-developers, with financing supported by Savannah Economic Development Authority bonds and reported strong investor interest.
  • Opening is targeted for mid-2028, with officials expecting roughly 250 jobs and a stronger bid for major conventions after an earlier 2023 plan with Brookfield Properties fell through over financing.
