Overview
- The approximately 13-metre Nordmann fir from Plettenberg was formally handed over at the Bundeskanzleramt on Friday in the presence of Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
- The 45-year-old tree now stands in the Ehrenhof to decorate the Chancellery during the pre-Christmas period.
- Originally over 20 metres tall and more than 10 tonnes, the tree was shortened to make transport to Berlin possible, the owner said.
- A crane and a professional tree climber were used during felling, which the owner described as more difficult than expected due to snow in the Sauerland.
- The donation reflects the AGDW’s annual practice of providing the Chancellery’s tree from a different federal state, aligning this year with Merz’s Sauerland roots.
