Saudi-UAE Rift Deepens as Riyadh Strikes Mukalla and Orders Emirati Exit From Yemen

Riyadh’s ultimatum leaves Gulf partners publicly at odds over the STC’s southern gains.

Overview

  • Saudi-led coalition aircraft carried out a limited strike at Mukalla port targeting what it said were weapons and combat vehicles unloaded from two UAE-linked ships, with Saudi media reporting no casualties.
  • Saudi Arabia called the UAE’s steps highly dangerous, declared its national security a red line, and backed a demand for Emirati forces to leave Yemen within 24 hours.
  • Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council declared a 90-day state of emergency, imposed a 72-hour no-fly, sea and ground lockdown on ports and crossings, and annulled a defense pact with the UAE.
  • The UAE rejected the weapons allegation, said the vehicles were for its own forces after coordination, and announced the withdrawal of its remaining counterterrorism personnel from Yemen.
  • UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council forces hold recent territorial gains across key southern governorates, heightening risks to stability, humanitarian operations and nearby shipping lanes.
