Saudi Coalition Says STC Leader Fled as Yemen Council Ousts Him and Opens Treason Case

The turn has stalled planned Riyadh talks, exposing a widening SaudiUAE split over the STC’s separatist drive.

Overview

  • Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki said Aidarous al-Zubaidi failed to board a flight to Saudi Arabia and was believed to have mobilized forces before fleeing to an unknown location.
  • At 4 a.m., the coalition carried out limited pre-emptive strikes focused on al-Dhale, with domestic and STC sources reporting more than 15 strikes and a warning for civilians to avoid military sites in Aden and al-Dhale.
  • The Presidential Leadership Council revoked al-Zubaidi’s membership and referred him to prosecutors on high treason and related charges, accusing him of inciting rebellion and attacking constitutional authorities.
  • The STC disputed the coalition’s account, said al-Zubaidi remains in Aden, condemned the airstrikes as unjustified with reported casualties, and reported losing contact with its delegation that landed in Riyadh.
  • Saudi-backed forces recently reclaimed military sites in Hadramawt and al-Mahra after STC advances, while the UAE announced a withdrawal of its forces and the STC outlined a two-year path toward an independence referendum.
