Saudi Coalition Hits Mukalla Shipment, Links UAE to Yemen Separatists

Yemen's leadership imposed emergency measures after the strike, ordering Emirati forces to leave within 24 hours.

Overview

  • The coalition said a limited airstrike at Mukalla targeted weapons and combat vehicles unloaded from two ships that arrived from Fujairah with tracking systems disabled, reporting no casualties or infrastructure damage.
  • Saudi Arabia publicly called the UAE’s role “highly dangerous,” declared its national security a red line, and urged Abu Dhabi to halt military and financial support to Yemeni factions.
  • Presidential Leadership Council chief Rashad al-Alimi declared a state of emergency, cancelled a security pact with the UAE, and imposed a 72-hour air, sea and land blockade with limited exemptions.
  • The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council recently seized Hadramawt and Al-Mahra, and Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman urged STC forces to hand over the governorates peacefully.
  • Open-source tracking pointed to at least one vessel that had been in Fujairah before reaching Mukalla, while the United States’ top diplomat Marco Rubio urged restraint and continued diplomacy.
