Satya Niketan PG Operator Denied Anticipatory Bail After Deadly Building Collapse

A judge pointed to a second rent agreement and an injured tenant's statement as reason to order custodial questioning to probe who ran the PG and where the money and construction decisions came from.

Overview

  • A building in Satya Niketan collapsed on September 6, killing seven people and injuring several tenants who lived in the paying-guest units.
  • Patiala House Court refused anticipatory bail to Advocate and PG operator Shubham Tyagi after prosecutors said he hid a rent agreement and the investigation remained at an early stage.
  • Prosecutors produced two separate rent agreements dated September 6, 2025 that they say show Tyagi leased the second and third floors while his co-accused Sudhanshu leased other floors of the same building.
  • An injured tenant, Nitish Chib, told investigators that basement excavation and cutting of iron rods had been going on for about 10–12 days before the collapse and that students’ complaints were met with threats and assurances the work was renovation.
  • Police have arrested five people so far and are seeking custodial interrogation of Tyagi to confront co-accused, trace the PG business's money trail, examine consent for structural work and guard against evidence tampering as the probe continues.
