Satara Police Fatally Shoot Wanted Repeat Offender During Shikrapur Arrest Attempt

Investigators have begun a post-mortem at Sassoon Hospital alongside ballistic testing of the seized service pistol.

Overview

  • Police say Lakhan Popat (Mahesh) Bhosale attacked a Satara team with a knife near Malthan Phata, Shikrapur, around 6:30 pm, injuring two constables before an officer fired in self-defence.
  • Bhosale, linked to dozens of cases and previously booked under MCOCA, had been released from Yerwada Jail in April and was recently identified through CCTV from knifepoint robberies.
  • An accomplice identified as Amol (Amar) Daulappa Kere was detained at the scene during the operation led by Satara City Police.
  • Both injured personnel were treated and are stable, and an attempt-to-murder FIR has been registered at Shikrapur Police Station based on a wounded constable’s complaint.
  • Forensic teams inspected the site, seized the service pistol for ballistics, and sent the body to Sassoon General Hospital for autopsy as officials await further reports.
