Sarhad Shauryathon Inaugurated in Drass as Shinde Pledges Healthcare Upgrades

Participants traced the rugged Drass terrain in memory of 1999’s fallen soldiers with officials pledging new healthcare equipment for the region.

Overview

  • The Sarhad Shauryathon marathon was held on June 22 at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass to honor Kargil War heroes of 1999.
  • Over a thousand civilians, students, armed forces personnel and youngsters ran across five-kilometer, ten-kilometer and half-marathon categories organized by the Indian Army and Sarhad Foundation.
  • Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and LAHDC-Kargil CEC Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon led dignitaries at the launch of the commemorative series ahead of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26.
  • Shinde toured Sonamarg and Drass markets and discussed the tourism downturn caused by the recent Pahalgam terror attack with local residents and business owners.
  • Shinde pledged a CT-scan machine for the Drass Sub-District Hospital and new ambulances for Kargil district to bolster healthcare infrastructure.
