Sarah Michelle Gellar to Return as Buffy in New Sequel Series Focused on a New Slayer

The Hulu project, directed by Chloé Zhao and written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, is in development with Gellar as executive producer.

The upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel will introduce a new Slayer, with Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising her role as Buffy Summers in a limited capacity.
Sarah Michelle Gellar will also serve as an executive producer alongside Chloé Zhao, Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, and original Buffy producers Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, and Kaz Kuzui.
The project, nearing a pilot order from Hulu, aims to expand the Buffyverse while respecting the legacy of the original series, which aired from 1997 to 2003.
Gellar has described the development process as 'overwhelming' and 'nerve-wracking,' emphasizing the importance of 'getting it right' for fans of the series.
Joss Whedon, creator of the original series, is not involved in the sequel following allegations of misconduct that surfaced in 2021.
