Sarah Michelle Gellar Confirms No Return for 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' Sequel

Despite her character's death in the original film, Gellar will provide unofficial support for the new project directed by her friend.

Sarah Michelle Gellar will not reprise her role as Helen Shivers in the upcoming 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' sequel, as her character died in the 1997 original film.
Freddie Prinze Jr., Gellar's husband, is set to return as Ray Bronson in the sequel, with Jennifer Love Hewitt in negotiations to join the cast.
Gellar will contribute behind the scenes in an unofficial capacity, providing continuity support for director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
The new cast includes Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King, with the film scheduled for release on July 18, 2025.
Plot details for the sequel remain undisclosed, but it is written by Sam Lansky and Kaytin Robinson, based on a draft by Leah McKendrick.
