• An elderly man reported bears near Fujino in Sapporo’s Minami Ward around 6:30 a.m., leading responders to three animals in nearby forest.
• Officials found a mother bear and two cubs, with one cub immobilized in a sika-deer trap, according to city staff, police and local hunters.
• At about 8:30 a.m., a hunter shot and killed the adult bear and the trapped cub, while the other cub fled into the mountains.
• A municipal surveillance camera had captured a bear at approximately 3:50 a.m., and the city released the image to warn residents.
• Sightings in the area have been reported since Sept. 26, including a parent and cub near Fujino Mukudori Park on Sept. 28, and authorities continue monitoring the remaining cub.
