SAP Rolls Out 'Autonomous Enterprise' with Joule Agents and Embedded Payments

The move aims to ground AI in enterprise data to automate cross‑functional work with built‑in audit controls.

Overview

  • At SAP Connect on Tuesday, SAP demonstrated Joule Work and Joule Assistants as live products, said Joule Work is running inside SAP for 110,000 employees, and presented customer pilots from Novartis, Nestlé, PwC and Morgan Foods.
  • SAP described the SAP Business AI Platform as the foundation for agents, citing Joule Studio with access to more than 70 AI models and a Knowledge Graph that maps over 7 million data fields to provide business context.
  • The company said customers will be able to connect third‑party AI via an Agent2Agent protocol while using an AI Agent Hub and an ISO/IEC 42001‑certified governance architecture to log authorizations and produce auditable outcomes.
  • SAP highlighted early outcomes including a reported ~20% productivity gain in finance, HR and procurement at SAP and up to a 50% reduction in trade‑classification work in early deployments, and announced SAP Pay, powered by Tereina, to execute and reconcile payments inside Cloud ERP.
  • SAP plans staged customer rollouts and early‑adopter programs through late 2026 into Q1 2027 while acquiring tooling to map work and skills, a shift that could speed routine task automation for employees but will require companies to align data, authorizations and process design to keep humans in control.
