SAP Pledges Over €20 Billion to Expand European Sovereign Cloud

The program introduces SAP-run infrastructure in customer facilities to keep sensitive data inside the EU.

Overview

  • The commitment spans 10 years and underpins an expanded portfolio that adds an Infrastructure-as-a-Service platform and a new on-site deployment model.
  • SAP Sovereign Cloud On-Site is now available globally, letting customers host SAP-operated, open‑source–based infrastructure within their own data centers.
  • The offerings are designed to keep customer data within the EU to meet GDPR requirements and support public‑sector and other regulated workloads.
  • SAP said the multiyear spend is already built into its financial plans and will not change next year’s capital expenditure.
  • Shares fell in early trading, with Benzinga reporting a premarket decline of about 2.2%, and SAP said it is involved in EU AI gigafactory efforts without serving as the lead partner.
