Santos Laguna Unveils Kevin Balanta as Cornerstone of Defensive Rebuild

Kevin Balanta was formally presented on July 8 in Torreón, donning the No. 35 jersey in a ceremony attended by president Alejandro Irarragorri and coach Francisco Rodríguez. The 28-year-old defender said he is very happy to join Santos Laguna and is 100% committed to repaying the club’s trust on the field. Rodríguez highlighted Balanta’s physical strength, aerial prowess and leadership as vital assets to fortify a backline that conceded among the most goals in Liga MX last season. Balanta brings over 120 Liga MX appearances with Tijuana, Querétaro and Xolos, an Apertura title with Deportivo Cali and caps at U-20, U-23 and senior levels for Colombia. Club management has reiterated its conviction-driven recruitment strategy and signaled that more experienced defenders will arrive ahead of the Apertura 2025 opener.
