Overview
- Santander confirmed that 12 high-street branches will transition to counter-free formats within days, ending in-person coin deposits and large cash withdrawals at those sites.
- Branches in Bromsgrove, Northwich, Sittingbourne and Streatham will lose counters on June 30, followed by Bracknell on July 7; Hartlepool and Nuneaton on July 14; Gravesend and Liverpool’s Allerton Road on August 4; and Camberley, Orpington and Rotherham on August 11.
- Alongside the counter removals, 36 outlets will switch to reduced opening hours and customers will be guided to use ATMs, Santander Work Cafés, Post Office partnerships and community banking hubs for cash and coin transactions.
- The change forms part of Santander’s wider 2025 network overhaul, which includes closing 95 branches and converting 18 to counter-free desks as digital transactions have risen more than 60% since 2019.
- A Santander UK spokesperson said the bank will balance full-service branches, counter-free sites and mobile units to meet evolving customer behaviour and satisfy FCA access-to-cash requirements.
