Santa Rosa Storm Triggers Wide SMN Alerts in Argentina as Spain Posts Local Heat and Rain Warnings

National agencies signal high-impact but localized hazards, from Argentina’s heavy rain and wind to Spain’s oppressive coastal nights.

  • Argentina’s meteorological service kept yellow alerts in place and raised orange levels in parts of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe and Entre Ríos for storms with 30–60 mm of rain, locally higher, strong gusts and isolated hail.
  • The AMBA was forecast to see the most active window from Sunday into Monday with thunderstorms and gusty winds, followed by a marked temperature drop starting early in the week.
  • Córdoba reported the storm’s passage with no new rain expected Monday and a cool start to September, while Bahía Blanca’s yellow alert was extended into Monday with 30–70 mm possible.
  • Some provinces also faced strong wind advisories, with reported and forecast gusts commonly 60–80 km/h and pockets near 90 km/h, plus heavy mountain snow in cordilleras of San Juan and Mendoza.
  • In Spain, AEMET activated a yellow heat alert on Valencia’s southern coast for very warm nights and elevated thermal sensation, as Galicia faced cloudy, humid weather with light persistent rain and gusts up to about 56 km/h.
