Santa Monica Wrong-Way Hit-and-Run: Victims Identified as Search for Driver Intensifies

Investigators released the victims’ names, urging witnesses to help find the fleeing driver.

  • Brad Lipshy and Maura Cohen, both 61, were identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, who listed blunt traumatic injuries as the cause of death.
  • Police say an orange Dodge Charger was traveling west in the eastbound lanes on the 1300 block of Wilshire Boulevard around 9:15 p.m. Friday before veering onto the sidewalk.
  • Two additional pedestrians were hospitalized and were expected to survive, according to Santa Monica police.
  • The driver abandoned the car and ran away; video appears to show the suspect fleeing and police described him as a Black man about 6 feet tall wearing a red hat, black sweater and black shoes.
  • Detectives do not currently believe the crash was intentional but are investigating it as a felony hit-and-run, and the vehicle was registered to a rental company.
